Default 28-2 rear sight issues

On my local gun site, there is a 4 inch 28-2 for sale. The description says left side of the rear sight is broken off. My question is this an easy fix by replacing with a new rear sight or is it more complicated. And would this by chance be fixed through warranty work through SW.
THANKS, Kevin I'm new to the revolver addition and I only shoot them, and not much for fixing myself. The price has the gun listed for is 425 it started off higher. Any help would be appreciated......

Kevin, it sounds like it might be the rear sight leaf that is broken. If so, replacements are available from the factory, as well as the usual gunsmithing outlets. Maybe $10? Not too difficult to replace. I doubt the whole rear sight assembly is busted, but they are available as well.

That's a good price on a 28-2, especially a 4 inch. I don't know if S&W would cover it under warranty, as it may be too early, but I am sure they will fix it for a price. If you go the factory route, see if they will send you a pre-paid mailer - save yourself some shipping cost.

Larry

The 28s pre-date the lifetime warranty, but you could ask-also ask what the proper height rear sight leaf is. A rear sight leaf kit is available from Brownells. Rear sight leaf, nut & screw. The LGS, might throw in the repair or do it at a nominal price to move the thing.

You need a small/special screwdriver (might be in the kit) to hold the nut in place while you remove the screw-the end of it is staked to keep it in place. After installing the new screw & nut, stake the screw with a center punch.

I believe .146" blade is correct for a 4" barreled model 28?
