Who can install S&W medallions in grips?
Guessing this is the right place to post this. And sorry if has been asked before. I have one set of Ahrends grips I would love to have S&W medallions installed on. A couple of the places I have bought my grips from before, I have asked them, and I think they are scared if something happens, and they prefer not to (and I was already aware of the licensing involved since they sell the grips). Does anyone know of a company or individual who performs this service?
Thanks much,
Dean

I'd start by calling Ahrends.

The reason Kim Ahrends won't install the S&W medallions it is because it is a licensing issue. To quote from his website: "...we don’t want to get into a licensing situation with the medallions or install something that is non-functional. Here again, there are grip makers putting unlicensed medallions in, we won’t be one of them."
Kim's grips are the best out there (along with Craig Spegel's). Why not enjoy them the way they are? Everyone can already tell your weapon is a Smith & Wesson. Correct?

There is a guy on eBay who always sells the studded nickel silver 3/8" and .42" dia. S&W grip medallions for about $15/pair. If you had an end mill of that diameter and a sturdy drill press, it wouldn't be too difficult to cut shallow recesses in your stocks and glue them in place. Might take a little practice on scrap wood first to perfect the technique and to get the depth right. I have done essentially the same thing to recess screw heads in gun stocks.

I've installed them in some of my VZ grips. I bought them off eBay and used a drill press, carefully.

If you were close I'd install them for you. Check with local gun shops that does minor gun work. Maybe one could help you. I've done it for many of my friends. As said the Medallions can bought off eBay. A Drill press and the right size flat hole bit works like a charm; 3/8" for S&W's, 1/2" for Colt & Ruger Medallions. Good luck.

Very nice grips! Be careful the emblems are not square but angled to one side to fit the grip contour. Good luck

Forstner bits work pretty well. The secret is to make sure both the Medallion and the bit are dimension-ally compatible...!
Use a cement same color if possible. I've done a few, not too bad, just take your time..[IMG] [/IMG]
