Default Cylinder catch

I was wondering if someone could tell me if all the K frame cylinder lock bars are interchangeable. Having a hard time locating a stainless replacement for my 65-3. 1985. Thanks

If you are referring to the bolt, "all" of the K series are not interchangeable, and some minor fitting (of new ones) is usually required. Due to design modifications, there are some minor differences in the front leg and the thumbpiece stud over the years. There is however, no functional difference between the carbon and stainless components, so a correctly fit carbon steel bolt would work fine in your revolver if you cannot find a stainless one.

Numrich lists some used ones for the model 65: Bolt (aka Cylinder Catch) | Gun Parts Corp.

If you continue to have problems finding one, let me know I have several new and used ones left from my armorer service.

I never knew they used Stainless Bolts in a M65-3. The only ones I've ever seen were Carbon Steel but I've only taken apart a few different M65's (one being my own) and all were vintage versions, M65-5 or earlier.

Armorer: Did they use Stainless parts in the earlier versions or later ones??
Just curious......

Default internals

I'm not sure if there is a correct, "across the board" answer concerning the internals. The stainless guns are/were supposed to have stainless internal parts, but I think S&W will use whatever is on hand to tell you the truth.

All of the stainless service revolvers I've worked on since the 1970's, and the ones I have encountered at the armorer recertifications have had an "S" stamped on the bolt, as well as the other major internal parts.

I would guess they are clearly marked to help the fitters recognize them.
