Default Barrel Replacement from 4 to 2.

I got two Police trade in Model 10 (-6 & -8) revolvers for a great deal. The -6 cleaned up great but the -8 has the last inch of the barrel pitted like crazy.

I was given a 2 inch barrel for a Model 10 but it has a flat spot in the threads so I assume its for a pinned frame.

Could it work in the -8 which is not a pinned frame?

Once installed you will never know it was milled. Will work just fine.

Question is : does it need the shoulder cut to index properly?

No problems with the 2” barrel fitting, but a tapered barrel on a frame for a bull barrel will look unusual (the contours of the frame are different for a standard barrel). I think I would shoot the 4” because the pitted rifling may not make any accuracy difference. If it does or the finish is ugly, perhaps shortening it back to the currently fashionable 3” length would work. It would also eliminate the need for the shorter extractor rod of the 2”. Good luck in your decision.
