Sending revolver back to S & W for warranty repair?
Never done before. How do you go about it? How about insurance? What carriers do this, FedEx? Ups? USPS? Any other info anyone may have about it will help. No search capabilities on my phone and no computer.

Call S&W service dept. If warranty work, they will send a pre-paid shipping label. I believe they are using Fed-Ex.

Here's a number..1 (800) 331-0852
You'll need an email address and go to the local library and print out the label they send.

They may be able to snail-mail the label to you. They do expire, but not in hours. If you go to a main facility, it may be enough to have a shipping code. I've done that with FedEx when my printer was dead.
You may have to take it to a company facility (not a storefront shop) to send it, but they should be able to help with that. I don't recall if they offer at home pick up, but I would want to be at home rather than leave a box out if that were the case.

CALL S&W CUSTOMER SERVICE @ 1-800-331-0852 TO REQUEST A SHIPPING LABEL. HAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER OF YOU GUN READY....
BE AWARE THAT IF YOU HAVE REMOVED OR ALTERED YOUR IL, YOU HAVE VOIDED YOUR WARRANTY. REINSTALL IT, BEFORE RETURNING YOUR GUN.....
IF YOU DO NOT, S&W WILL INSTALL A NEW IL, AND CHARGE YOU FOR THE PART AND LABOR. (THEY WILL NOT RETURN A WEAPON, WITHOUT A FULLY FUNCTIONING IL, IF IT WAS SO EQUIPPED, WHEN NEW) THEY WILL THEN COMPLETE ANY REQUIRED REPAIRS, CHARGING YOU FULLY, FOR PARTS AND LABOR, AND CHARGE YOU FOR TRANSPORTATION, BOTH WAYS.....
HOW DO I KNOW ? ? ? I LEARNED THE HARD WAY, WHEN I RETURNED MY M617 FOR WARRANTY WORK. ITS THE ONLY REVOLVER THAT I OWN THAT HAD THE IL. I REPLACED IT WITH "THE PLUG" OFFERED BY ONE OF OUR FORUM MEMBERS......

Everything is as it came from factory. Can I send it back through my LGS? They are willing. It is a Davidson's from gun gallery, but they out of them for moment.

If you do that, they will need to be the origin and then receive it back. I've done that several times myself. Usually takes a little longer (a few days) as my LGS puts it in their book, and requires a 4473 to pick it up. No harm in that, but it adds a day on the return side for me.

S & W cover the insurance if they are paying for shipping, if gun lost? All we have local is drop boxes, no UPS or FedEx stores. Drop box don't thrill me.

Relax. People do this 100 times a day without incident. It's shipped on S&W's dime, so all expenses paid. You have to either drop it at a FedEx store or FedEx will also schedule a pickup at your home. The latter is what I usually do . . .

OP told us in the first post that he does not have a computer, so I'll presume no printer either.

If you are in a situation where you can be home on a scheduled pickup day, that works if S&W does that.
YOU MUST NOT USE A DROP BOX!! Stores don't work either. Has to be a center they actually run trucks from.
Sounds like you may be best served by using the LGS as you mentioned.
Yes, they pay & insure for warranty work, unless you have modified the pistol (as mentioned by others previously).

Call Smith and Wesson and ask for the service dept.
Tell them what you want and they will send you( E-Mail) a prepaid label with instructions on how to send your firearm to them. Above all do not use a drop box,They tell you that on the form.
I just sent them my revolver for repairs and thats how it works.
