Default Non stainless parts in stainless guns

I have a 64-3 that does not open the cylinder smoothly, It appears that the bolt tip is worn and the cylinder plunger gets caught a bit on the resulting lip in the recoil shield.

I'm not seeing any stainless bolts available and am wondering if using a regular steel bolt would cause any problems.

No problems replacing with a factory part but it will have to be fitted.

Brownell's carry stainless (I assume) bolts for the S&W 64-3;

K-Frame 64-3 | Top Rated Supplier of Firearm Reloading Equipment, Supplies, and Tools - Colt

Contact Brownell's to insure it's stainless.

Gun Parts Corp have used Model 64-3 bolts:

64-3 (K Frame) Schematic | Numrich

You can probably get a bolt direct from S&W if you contact them.

Thanks for the input but I fixed the bolt. I realized that the pin ,that goes through the the recoil shield, Is press fitted to the bolt. I wacked the back of the pin with a punch until I got it to sit flush with the recoil shield. ( about .003" was needed) Then I just staked the assembly.

Works beautifully now.
