Default Broken yoke screw

I have a 686-6 plus that the yoke screw broke. The head with most of the threads and plunger and spring all came out, and I got out the rest of the screw with threads easily out. Will S&W sell me or comp me this screw?

Definitely give them a call. My guess is they'll mail it to you no charge, but if not it's only a few dollars.

I had the same thing happen to my new M69 snubby. I already had a spare on-hand so I didn't need to call them.

Default broken yoke screw

call S&W. Had a problem with yoke screw on my 610 and they sent me a new one for free. Not too long ago, I did not ck thumbpiece nut and it fell off and was lost. Called S&W and they did not have any in stock but back ordered one. I did not ask for a thumb piece but they sent one a few days later and after a short period of time, I received the thumbpiece nut

Where is that screw & plunger assembly used?

I do not recognize it from my 29s or 57. Does it retain the front of the cylinder rod in place on guns without an ejector rod shield?

It's part of the newly designed "yoke retention system" a.k.a. yoke screw (1988)....it replaced the front screw in the sideplate that also serves to secure the yoke in place.

I just had the same thing happen on my 627 Pro last month. I didn't even call; I just used their contact me email address and explained what happened and they sent me a new yoke screw free of charge. Took them about a week to get it to my door from sent email to delivery.

I wonder where their screws are being manufactured now. I've not seen a Yoke Screw break like that before just in normal use. Hmmmmmm.

It's a faulty design. Once the hole is drill in it for the plunger and spring, there's barely enough or no wall thickness for the threads! Tighten it just a bit too much and the threads separate in the grooves.
