Hey, I've got a pretty nice older Model 915, steel receiver with an anodized alloy frame (at least think it's anodized alloy).

Anyway, it has some slight what appears to be holster wear. See the pics.

Though minimal, the wear is driving me nuts.

Other than a complete refinishing of some type, does anyone know of a way to touch up these spots?

I'm not losing sleep over this but still, it's really bugging me. I'm sure some of you know the feeling.

Wow! At this point, this has had 110 looks and no answers.

I'm beginning to think it can't be done.

You could try an aluminum black on the bare spots after degreasing. It may work if you don't use the gun.. My opinion of the S&W finish on alloy frames is that it is not durable, easily worn and has always been so.

The sharpie works pretty well. I've been experimenting.

Best way I found to use it is to degrease the area of the frame you want to use the Sharpie on with alcohol. Then dry the alcohol off immediately.

Next, lightly hit the spot you want to darken with the Sharpie. It will turn the area a dark purplish color, darker than the frame.

Let it dry for two or three minutes. Then run your thumb or a fingertip lightly over the spot. Back and forth, back and forth. Keep checking to see if the purplish color is blending in with the frame's color.

Stop when it matches best. It took me a few attempts. But I got it pretty close.

It does look better. I'm satisfied with it.
