Don't trouble yourself with the size....... Older Smiths have smaller slots than the modern ones. Screw vendors have made them to different spec's for Smith over the years. Just make SURE which ever gun you are working on at the time you get a properly fit one.
You can go on Brownell's website and look at the 4 piece Bit "set" they sell for the Smith Revolvers. The smallest one (sorry, too lazy to go into the Shop now to look
) is the one for the Sideplate screws - but that being said, I've actually ground my own go get a better fit for some of the older versions.
Oh wait I have a photo .......... If you can read the numbers on the block, the smallest one in the top line for the S&W is the number (#120-1 I believe) (at least for most).
The other's I ground to fit specific Revolvers.
