jumbeaux - I contacted S&W back in 2016 about an M64 3-inch barrel and they said they didn't have any. I was able to find one on that flea site for $170 - which was irritating but I paid it. Sent my 4-inch 64 back to the mothership with the 3-inch barrel and they swapped it for $90 + return shipping. I later sold the 4-inch barrel for $50 or 60 and recovered some of my loss. It's funny you would ask this because I'm seriously looking at another 4-in 64 now on Crook Broker - and I was going to start a thread asking about who might be willing to cut and slab-side the 4-incher ...
I guess I'm old but I fail to see the utility or humor in the previous post!

My friend and I had a pair of factory DAO 64-6's cut down from 4" to 3" barrels and added Dawson Precision fiber optic sight. Lewis Throne did the work. I chose to keep mine the original finish. My friend opted for bead blast. Lewis said he could solder the original sight back on if preferred. We were happy with his work and turn around time.
It is hard to tell from the picture, but the crown is the same shape as the original and nicely done. The slab siding is a bit different. I wanted more of a re-curve to emulate the fluting on the cylinder (64-6 on top). His "standard" slab siding is on the bead blasted one.
Lewis is located in Trinidad. Co. His number is (719) 846-8552.

Wowie - JSticks - not that my opinion counts for much here - but your photo and info is perfect. Lotsa people hate it when people hint or ask about prices ... so, is around $250 a valid-ish number? Thanks!!

Well...I hate to quote prices for Lewis. He is very approachable and usually answers his phone. But the "devil is in the details." A sight will cost $30.00, or so, plus shipping.
And Shipping the 64's, yikes! UPS wanted around $120.00 to ship the 64's in the same box- one way. If you decide to go this route see if you can have an FFL ship it for you.

JSticks - Thanks sir! I haven't yet used it, but Ship-my-Gun offers a pretty reasonable shipping alternative - as long as the FFL is registered with them. I regret trading off my 3-inch 64 but I just couldn't get over the (fairly deep) pitting under the grips ...

A bit off-topic - Sorry!! I see there are a coupla 64-5's listed on that auction site. Are they also round-butts like the 64-6's shown above or square butt? I can't tell from the pictures and very few sellers take the time / have the honesty to take a picture with the grips off...

Could be either. We got two 64-5's last year. One was a square butt the other a round butt. I think all of the 64's after the 64-5 are round butt. Most of the 64-6's, probably all of the 64-7's and 64-8 have MIM parts.

A word of caution- if the revolver has rubber stocks, ask the seller if there is any rust underneath. I got one that looked fine, ran fine and had almost no wear but a fair amount of rust on the side plate where the stock covered it and some rust in the side plate frame joint. The rubber stocks seem to retain moisture more than the wood ones.

Thanks sir - and boy-oh-boy have I learned that lesson! That's why I'm looking for another 64 to convert to a 3-incher. Bought my older factory 3-inch here on the forum in 2015. It had factory magna's and I asked the seller if there was any damage under the grips. Anyways, saying it nicely, he mis-represented the condition. It was otherwise in very good shape but it was deeply and badly pitted under the grips. This is the one I mentioned above. Fast forward to last month and another SWF member, here locally, had a better condition 2-incher and we swapped. Some would say he got the better end of the deal - but I no longer have to look a a pitted frame. I hope he doesn't see this post but the cylinder was very ugly when I traded him. He was carrying it inside a pistol pouch with six rounds loose inside it. Over time the cylinder was burnished a lot - it looked like shinola! But, since the rounds were brass - it didn't have any actual scratches in it and cleaned up very nicely. I used 2000-grit automotive/foam-backed sand paper to clean it up and reset the grain ...
