How do you remove a cylinder latch?
I have a 1965 model 36 flat latch and it has some light scratches around the cylinder latch. I would like to remove the cylinder latch to try and clean up the scratches. Couldn’t be as easy as unscrewing the screw could it?
Thanks in advance

AFAIK it’s pretty much straightforward. Remove the threaded cap, remove the thumb piece.

Does anything of the internals move around or need repositioning when I get the nut and latch off?

A flat latch thumb piece pretty much says its been in there quite a while.
I would soak that baby a day or so prior to removing screw with the appropriate driver so as to not bugger up the screw.
It will certainly allow you better access to those scratches and when its all back together should look nice.

It is a screw, not a nut on a flat latch.
The thumbpiece is screwed to a part called the bolt.
DON'T push the bolt to the rear while the thumbpiece is off. That will sometimes make the bolt come out of the hole in the recoil shield, and it can be very difficult to wiggle it back in.
