1911 barrel fitting in the DFW area
I've got a S&W 1911 PD Scandium framed Commander that I managed to bulge the barrel on.
I need to get a new barrel fitted to it.
Does anyone know of someone in the DFW area who can do this for me? I'd like to avoid shipping the gun if at all possible.
Thanks.

McClelland Gun Shop on Centerville Road in Dallas. Or Doc's Gun Shop in Carrollton.

There are any number of sources where you can get drop in barrels. Bar-Sto, Clark and Kart come immediately to mind. I expect you can get a drop in from S&W too.
Most production 1911 barrels aren't really fitted.

I've used a guy out in seven points by the name of Ken Crawley, when I needed a barrel fitted on my 1911. He specializes in the 1911 exclusively. If there were any complaints, it'd be that he's not fast. Mine took a couple months. But in all fairness, it was in for more than a barrel. However if you're near Tyler, I'd highly recommend Stone Mountain. This guy is all about guns, and customer service. Just a little one man operation, but he really likes working on 1911s. He worked on my trigger, and had it back the next day.

Can you manage to separate the barrel and the bushing? When I did this in a PPC match
years back Dick Heinie told me to just file the bulge out of the barrel and to my surprise it
shot as good as ever?

Seems like I checked out a similar situation quite a few years ago.
I don't remember any barrels being "drop in", there was always a line at the bottom that said some fitting may be required so I figured it would. I remember Ken Crawley, he used to be at the local gun shows. I would think he would have retired by now but don't know for sure. He was pretty old when he was at the gun shows and thats been maybe 15 years a go. I talked to him at what may have been his last show and he said he had too much work already so wasn't looking for more. I've used McClellands before, don't particularly like the owner but they will do a good job in a reasonable amount of time.
