Default 617 works fine at the range

I'm taking some time off from shooting my automatics. Today I brought my 617 to the range and a bunch of ammo to test.

I had Federal Auto Match (275 round box), Blazers, CCI Mini Mag 40 grain, MM 36 grain, Federal Gold Metal Ultra Match , Champions, and Wolf MT.

Everything shot great and I had no failures of any kind. Groups were fantastic.

This 617 has had a lot of work done to it. I decided to smooth the action just a bit more using my just my medium grade stone. I use to get 1 - 2 failures to fire out of the Auto Mags, Blazer would give me 1 out of 100 rounds and Mini Mags would be 2 out of every 100 rounds.

This bothered me so I worked on the gun just a little bit more. Trigger pull is now just under 7 lbs double action. I used Jerry Miculeck's video to do the action work. The main spring is still stock and screwed in all the way. I changed the rebound spring to an 11 pound Wilson and pput an Apex Tactical hammer in the gun.

I've given up shooting Steel Challenge Matches for the rest of the summer, too hot at last match and I got Heat Stroke. ( I'm old and out of shape with diabetes and high blood pressure so the heat and sun got to me).

It's nice to know I can shoot any ammo that's in my closed and it will all go bang on the first try with this gun.

Great looking gun, and all the add on goodies. What brand of dot, and brand of mount are you using? I'm getting ready to add some stuff to my 617. The iron sights seem much smaller, than they once were. In fact, I'm sure they shrank over the past several years. Thanks Mike

I just bought a 617 6". Did not have it out to shoot yet.
The action feels good for a nib gun and it looks very clean.

Sight is a C-More with a 12 minute module on an Allchin Mount. It's the most opular sight for Steel Challenge shooting and is very reliable. Works great indoors or outside. The dot can be adjusted for brightness.

The Allchin mount really puts the sight low on the gun.

I had it out today and shot 400 rounds with no malfunctions. Trigger is excellent.

Will look for the youtube video.
The only thing I know I will change now is the front sight which may just need some paint.

The other day I did the same thing and left my autos at home. Nothing like a little personal time with a K frame .22. Is there a way to mount a red dot on my 6” 17 without drilling holes in the top strap?

You might check E-Bay for non drill revolver scope mounts. B-Square made them in the past.

Thanks for the mount and red dot info. I might not do any more pin shoots and may mount a regular scope for paper punches. I see that there is a 2x red dot, I think it's a Truglo. might be wrong. I've read about too many.
Your setup with the blue Cmore, sure looks good. Mike
