Default 696 Has To Go Back To S&W Again

Last November I sent my gently used 696 back to S&W for a cylinder that was binding up. I bought it used and with the cylinder binding up the way it was that's probably why the previous owner didn't shoot it, then sold it.

S&W received the gun on 12/1/17. After about 5 weeks and not hearing anything from S&W I called to see what the status was. They were baffled as to why I hadn't received a letter on the status, and they were going to contact the Performance Center and so-and-so would send out a letter.

Long story shorter, I had to keep calling every so often to get the status; nobody knew why it was taking so long, and nobody was calling back. I was finally able to talk to the right person and in addition to getting the gun "fixed" I had a Master Action Package done on it.

I received the pistol in April, took it out last weekend and shot it. The Master Action Package is very nice, but on that same charge hole the cylinder is moving forward and scuffing the forcing cone and binding up the cylinder.

Got to send it back in and have it done again.

Bill

Did you describe your problem , clearly in a written note ? Sometimes it takes a 2nd trip . I have personally used S&W for service many times . Occasionally it required a 2nd trip to get it resolved , I didn't complain about it to anyone , it's no big deal .

Yes, I put a note in the case with the pistol.

I'm finding now that when I squeeze the trigger the cylinder will push forward towards the forcing cone for all five charge holes, and it's worse on the one. With the gun dirty you can see just where the cylinder and forcing cone kiss. (I'll send it in dirty, too.) I don't recall it doing that on all of them before I sent it in. I've also looked at the b/c gap while squeezing the trigger on other S&W revolvers I own and none of the cylinders move forward while squeezing the trigger.

I forget what parts they said they changed; it's not on the receipt. I'll have to mention that they've already done the Master Action package on it, so if they change other parts that are normally "tuned" they should do that to them before they send it back.

It's real easy to see what it's doing and they should be able to figure it out.

Well Bill , then I have to say that you did everything you could . They simply missed it . Let's give them a 2nd chance . Sounds like you have too much cylinder " end play " . I would suggest making a phone call , explain to the person that handles customer service your problem . He will probably send you a shipping label . Good Luck , Regards Paul

UNFORTUNATELY, THESE REPEAT TRIPS HAVE BECOME AN ALL TOO FREQUENT OCCURRENCE WITH S&W PRODUCTS FROM BOTH THE REGULAR LINE, AND THE PC LINE.....

IMHO--INCREASINGLY, THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR QC, HAS SHIFTED FROM THE MANUFACTURER, TO THE END USER OF THE PRODUCT.......
