I have a magazine with a missing pin and will make one. Not sure how to disassemble the magazine. It appears that the stop pin at the top of the slot is the key to disassembly. How do I remove it??

The Baseplate has to slide off. On the newer ones it is a little bit of a pain in the butt because they are made so cheaply. On the older ones, after pressing in on the "button" on the baseplate they slide right off. The part in question has to line up (with cut out in lower part of Magazine) and just goes right in from the side. The newer version does not have a "button" to be pushed in and so the baseplate has to be carefully persuaded off off. Basically, the older ones were designed to be disassembled , cleaned, repaired and reassembled easily whereas the newer versions were not (sort of disposable) but with some skill can successfully disassemble, clean, repair and put back together.

Disassembled and cleaned all parts and made a new pin on my trusty South Bend 9" lathe. First order of business was making the bushing that fits in the follower.

The screw was made by modifying the head of a 6-32 stainless socket head screw (the head of a 4-40 screw is just too small) then turning the threads down to 4-40 so the screw slipped easily in the magazine slots and through the bushing. The "nut" is just a piece of 3/16" SS rod tapped for the 4-40 threads. A spot of LocTite secures the nut.

Too bad stainless steel can't be blued.

A-37 Nice job! Glad you had one with a button on the bottom. The new M41 magazines are cheap junk - and that's being kind. The new ones can be purchased for as little as $20 bucks (NIB), but the old ones with the metal followers sell for $60 - 75 bucks used. Just goes to show ya how much they are valued at.
