629-2 firing pin bushing

I recently acquired a 629-2 classic hunter and when firing factory loads and my reloads the primers are backing out of the case causing a cylinder bind. The firing pin bushing is set back in the frame and i believe that it is supposed to be flush with the frame. Is this covered under a recall or warranty from smith and wesson or do I need to find a smith to fix it?

I don't remember hearing of a recall for that model. Irregardless, call S&W & explain the problem. They can tell you whether there would be a charge or not to fix it. I'd speculate there wouldn't be.

Sounds to me like your hammer nose bushing needs to be changed out. Whether S&W will warranty this or not depends on when your revolver was manufactured I think. I believe it was some time around 1989 or 1990 that S&W changed over to their lifetime warranty.

This is one repair that I would sent a gun to S&W for or a trained smith with the proper equipment

Send it back to S&W.
They have one of the most painless factory service protocols around.
I have a 629-2 and it has been worked on by the mothership.
Turned out fine.

S&W guns manufactured after February 1, 1989 are covered under the "Lifetime Warranty". The change from the Model 629-2 to 629-2E occurred in 1989, so your gun may or may not be included since the warranty in principal only extends to the original purchaser. All you can do is call customer service and ask, 800-331-0852. S&W does repair any model numbered guns that they still have parts for, so it isn't a matter of S&W Warranty or find a gunsmith!

A close friend bought a used Model 60-4, introduced in 1990 so it would be covered based on DOM. It had exactly the same issue your revolver does. S&W charged him $65 as I recall to replace the hammer nose bushing. (That's what it is called!) As I recall our LGS sent it to S&W for him so the shipping was quite reasonable.
