Grip finish
I have a set of factory targets on a 629. On the bottom, on both sides of the grips there is slight smudging on the finish. Kind of like "box rubbing'. Polish that out with like 3000 auto finish sandpaper and wax?
Thanks

Birchwood Casey's Tru-Oil. Can be applied by fingers so as not to disturb any factory finish. Washes off hands with soap and water. Apply in thin coats allowing overnight drying. Blend in with the factory finish and it looks original.

Thanks, and you would not polish it with 3000 paper like a car finish first?

I would not polish with 3,000 grit wet/dry. grips are wood, car finish is painted steel/aluminum/plastic.

Depends. I wouldn't polish just to polish if the bare wood was clean and dry. If the wood was dirty, greasy, etc. I would clean very gently starting with maybe a lightly dampened rag. End up with clean, dry, bare wood, then apply Tru-Oil sparingly allowing each coat to dry overnight. Apply following coats until it matches the original varnish. Done right, it will be difficult to tell the grip was refinished. Hope that helps.
