What am I looking at?
I’m new to pistol shooting and noticed today while cleaning that my rod wasn’t spinning while going through the barrel Atleast not like when I clean my rifles I seem to just push patches through and push the brush forward completely out the barrel and then pull it right back. I normally do a good inspection once I’m done cleaning and I noticed this, is my barrel on my basically brand new pistol already scratched or is this just fouling?

Welcome aboard.
It appears that you’re looking at lead fouling.

Agreed, you need a Lewis lead remover! And consider switching to harder alloy for your lead bullets or different ammo.
You may also want to consider lapping your barrel and get the machine tool marks out of the forcing cone/rifling as well. You can lap by hand or shoot some abrasive bullets designed to lap the barrel. Check the Brownells website or catalog.

That certainly looks like lead. The Lewis Lead Remover is great for removing lead. To prevent leading, you may want to look into the smoothness of the barrel, bullet hardness, and/or switch to powder coated, plated, or jacketed bullets.

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania.
I agree with all above that it appears to be fouling.
