Grip Question
I bought some wooden after market grips for a J-frame. The grips are nice the shiny glossy finish is not. It might be polyurethane and I am not sure what to use to dissolve the finish. Will acetone do the trick? I am aure they will be better afterward with an oil finish. Thanks for your help.

Acetone should do the job. If not, any paint tstripper should work.
I much prefer an oil finish.

Well thanks very much. I am a dinosaur by choice, flip phone, my cameras are 35mm so I am pretty much out of the photo venue. I do offer a heartfelt thanks and I will be happy when I get the shiny/showy finish off. Afterwards it will be oil fashioned hand rubbed finish. More class and less glitz.

Avoid using any sandpaper or other abrasives.

Well far be it from me to try to force anyone out of dinosaur land, but even most flip phones have a camera and the capability of sending the photos to your email address. Just sayin....

i had a similar situation with a shotgun stock. old gunsmith took it in the back and came out with problem solved in 5 minutes..said he took some very fine steel wool to it and then rubbed a little oil on it....acetone will remove all the finish and then you'll have extra work.
