I pulled my 686 cylinder for cleaning today. Now I can't get it back together. When I try to slide the yoke down over the extractor rod and into the cylinder, the yoke is hitting something and not seating. Instead of sliding inside the cylinder, it is pushing the extractor rod down. I can't really see too far inside the cylinder around the extractor rod, but it looks like the yoke might be making contact with a spring around the extractor rod? Any ideas? Home fix or back to S&W?
UPDATE: Fixed it. There are two springs in the extractor rod assembly. The problem was with the largest of the two. The end of the spring, that supports the extractor rod bushing, had "come undone" slightly, just enough that the yoke barrel was hitting and catching on it during reassembly. I disassembled the extractor assembly and flipped the spring, putting the "bad" end down towards the star. All good now. The yoke slides in as normal and everything works fine.
