Default Windage Screw Plunger and Spring Frustration

This is not my first rodeo with this dang task. I have replaced several blades over the years, and sometimes I can put plunger and spring in with only half a dozen tries, and other time it take me hundreds of tries over several days to accomplish the task. I am the several days mode with my latest j-frame blade switch. Need either help or counseling!

I do everything by the book. I just can't seem to get that plunger straight down into the hole in the first place. Then I find it tough to turn the screw to secure the plunger after I do. Most of the challenge, for me, it getting a plunger depressed straight into the hole to begin with.

Two times ago, my finger nail seems to do the job after a few tries. Last time after a few days, I managed to get the plunger depressed with a small screwdriver blade. This time, I can't seem to use either to get the plunger depressed at all. I have this problem with different plungers and springs.

Thinking about assembling the sight skipping the plunger, but don't want to do this. Any help, tricks, chants, and/or prayers would be appreciated.

An unsharpened pencil or a piece of dowel will work good to hold the plunger and spring down while you slip it into the sight body.

Wow, that worked great! Wish I had asked this question 20 or 30 years ago. Thanks!

I would take a fired 22 caliber shell and cut the rim end off. I would insert the windage screw with spring and plunger into the shell.
Then put the theaded end into rear sight while holding shell against rear sight and push the windage screw into sight.

The way I was taught in my factory armorers class was to screw the blade on until it is over the hole, insert spring and plunger in hole and turn it up and let bottom of sight blade hold plunger down and then insert blade into sight. It is now captured. Easier to do then explain...

I tried the above mentioned method but found it was easier to use the 22 cartridge.
