First make absolutely sure nothing is under the ejector star. Absolutely clean, no powder flakes or carbon. If there is much stuff under the ejector star the cylinder will bind as the ejector is pressed hard on inset in recoil shield and against end of yoke tube. A negative end shake. S&W cylinders head space off the center of the ratchet and face of cylinder or in the case of recessed chambers off the recess. If it is clean, does the outside of cylinder face rub on the recoil shield when no rounds are in chambers? When a 22 cases are in chambers do they set flush or are they high? If cylinder face rubs recoil shield empty center of ratchet is to low . If not and cases rub, either chambers are dirty, stuff is under ejector or chambers are a bit to shallow.

It is abnormal for this to occur like this...
Have you taken your cylinder/yoke apart and completely cleaned everything?
After, check yoke fit to the frame up front and shim until it locks up tight. Then, put the cylinder back on and shim until tight, but not binding to the rear.
If this still binds up, I would check the yoke for straightness.....and the election rod for straightness.
You may need to reface the yoke, if all that checks out.
Might be worth getting to a revolver smith as that is $200+ in tools.

On the back side of the cylinder that is recessed for the ejector star to fit in you will see two small nibs that fit in corresponding holes in the star. They make sure the two pieces stay perfectly aligned. Turns out there was just enough dirt in those holes so the star wouldn’t fit the way it should. I used a dental pick to clean the hole out and everything worked fine. Wasn’t really very dirty but apparently it doesn’t take much. Worth a try.

If you are filing, you have accomplished nothing more than more problems. Send it home for a proper repair.

Sounds to me like it could be excessive end shake and should have been properly repaired - not with a file! Can't be sure without having it in front of me but filing a beautiful Revolver without knowing exactly what the problem is first is a bit harsh I think.
