Talking Replacement front sight

I have a S&W 625 Model1989.I would like to replace the front sight blade. The current all black sight blade is approx 3/4" long and 1/4" high and it is pinned. What good fiber optic sight blade would be a suitable replacement. Also is all that is involved is punching out the pin holding the sight in place.

Punching out the pin will work to remove the sight but the new one will have to be drilled when you install it.

If you use the gun for self defense I would get a night sight for the gun.
A fiber optic sight is useless in the dark or low light.
All the revolvers/rifles I have had over the years with a black front blade got painted with Testers Gloss Yellow model paint. It picks up the light well in daytime and dim light.

To answer your question, you can enter the make/model number and “front sight”in Google and get a large selection of options for your 625. There should be instructions with your new sight on how to install. YouTube will also have some good instructions.

Be SAFE and shoot often!

Fiber optic sights work pretty well in low light, but not in no light. Most people prefer the green or orange on my sights. Red is pretty dim.

SDM & Dawson make some. Oddly, the SDM's are a little longer than the factory length, & Dawson's are a little shorter than the factory's.

You need to carefully drill the hole for the new sight blade & not enlarge the hole in the blade's barrel mounting slot. I often re-drill both to a larger diameter pin (.0625" or 1/16" which is easy to find) since the factory pins are usually pretty small & hard to find a replacement locally, plus they seem to be of different diameters.

As Bluedot37 mentioned, drilling the hole slightly oversize to a common pin size is not a bad idea. It's what I've always done. I know that everyone has differing views on night sights. Some swear by them. Others not so much. The best reason for them I've ever heard came from an older woman who had night sights on her nightstand gun. She mentioned that when she heard a funny noise at night it was very comforting to look over and see those little green dots glowing in the dark. Myself I don't do a lot of target shooting in the dark. I do agree though that fiber optic doesn't do much for you indoors. Outdoors on the other hand they're super bright. I wish that Tru Glow would make a TFO front sight for revolvers. They are a fiber optic with a vial of tritium. Work like regular FO outdoors but are night sights in the dark. Actually work very well.
