K frame rear sights
I would to know if all k frame sights are the same. I have a model 15 that has a sight on it that does not align properly to the screw holes in the frame.

No, they are all the same width, but the location of the mounting screw has varied some. I think it went from behind the forcing cone to over the top of it or vis a versa. Then the newer ones have a rounded front.
Some sellers on ebay post diamentions or photos with a measure.
I would NOT tap a new hole. I have taped several that I converted from fixed to adjustable. Its a pretty small tap. Something like a 5-40 0r maybe even a 3 I can't remember of the top of my head. Takes a good set up and a lot of care.

All the new rounded end ones are the same. The old square ended ones vary quite a bit on hole location, depending on what model of gun they were for. The square sights had a small screw, I think #2-56, not positive. They used the same screw for the adjustable trigger stop that was in a slot in the frame. The round sights have a larger screw.

In addition to the variable screw hole location and leaf style, the “slide” (sight blade) height differed, and the metal used (blued, stainless).

This is on a model 15-3, the work was poorly done and probably the wrong sight. Thanks for all replies.

Not counting the round front tang sight, there are 4 K frame sights:
1. Pre 1967 - the front tang screw aligned with the barrel cyl gap.
2. the 2" barrel sight with tang that reaches all the way to the barrel, same screw location as #1 above.
3. 1967 - Relocation of rear sight front tang screw forward over the top of the barrel which added the -3: 14-3, 15-3, 17-3, 18-3, etc.
4. the 2" barrel sight with tang that reaches all the way to the barrel, same screw location as #3 above.
