Default 340PD with no gas ring/extractor collar??

I have a new 340PD and decided to detail clean it. I thought the trigger had some grit to it. Under the side plate I found some aluminum. Probably left over from cutting the frame for the cut out that the side plate goes in. Anyways I read about a collar on the yoke and was warned not to loose it in another thread. Naturally I paid attention not to loose it. To my surprise in was not there. Gun has never been apart. Is there others out there missing this? or did S&W delete it? I'll pick one up at Midway, but I'm curious what others have to say.

The "Gas Ring" on .38 / .357 J-Frame revolvers is not a separate piece but an enlarged flange at front of the cylinder arbor of the yoke. There is also an "extractor collar" that fits on the extractor rod between it and the extractor. This is what people warn against losing. There is rarely any need to go farther in dis-assembly than to slip the cylinder assembly from the yoke to clean and lubricate the arbor.

Thanks for the clarification, but it's not there either. Has been functioning fine. I detail clean my firearms once every two to three years depending on use. This assembly has never been taken apart since assembled at the factory.

I've exchanged a few emails with S&W trying to figure out my collar delima. I call it that because no one has a definitive answer as to if this year, make and model has one. The emails didn't work to well(I only emailed because I work 10 hours a day and never have time to wait out the hold time). Once they clearly didn't read my email and just spewed an answer out. Finally today I made it pass the hold time. I spoke to someone that had some idea of what I was asking. He took my serial number and compared it with the active parts list. He said it is equipped with a gas ring(pressed on to the cylinder, as far as he knew.) and there was no collar or extractor rod collar listed on the build sheet/parts list. I asked if it ever had a collar on that model in the past. He said he could only tell me what was on my serial number list. I smiled and said thanks for your help.
