Modifications to S&W Revolvers, your thoughts. PART 2
Ok, lets see pics of modified Smiths. Round-butted, polished triggers, mild to wild, working or competition, the good the bad, the ugly.
Pictured here is a 1973-75 27-2. I sent it in to the performance center, they swapped out the trigger for a .312 smooth faced combat trigger, and did DA trigger job.

As a rookie cop in 1968 we all wanted to put every whiz-bang gadget on our guns we could afford. Fortunately for our bank accounts the department was very strict and conducted weapons inspections @ roll frequently. This applied to off-duty weapons which we had to register w/the agency, get the range officer to approve, AND we had to qualify with. To this day my revolvers only have either a grip adapter, target grips or maybe a dallop of paint on the front sight.

Here is a modification that I did to a 8 3/8" S&W Mod. 14-4 revolver, that requires the removal of the complete rear sight, and replacing it with a Bushnell no drill/tap, scope mount, 34" Redfield rings, and a heavy duty 2x LER Relfield Scope. The neat thing about this modification, is that it can all be put back into Stock factory configuration, without any damage to the gun.

Toolguy;
Yes, I built that adjustable display stand of white oak many years ago. Our son, machined the brass knobs and hardware, and gave them to me for a Christmas gift that year. I've built many display stands, and cases, during my shooting/collecting years, but, even though I can't shoot, or build things anymore. I still enjoy showing my collectible "Stuff", on them, and sharing them with others. Thanks for the kind words.

BELOW IS MY NO-DASH M686, MODIFIED FOR RELIABLE EDC. IT WAS PURCHASED AS A CLEAN USED REVOLVER, ON GUNBROKER......
BECAUSE ITS PURPOSE WAS SELF DEFENSE, I SENT IT INTO S&W FOR THE RECALL MODIFICATION. WHILE IT WAS THERE, I ORDERED THAT IT BE FITTED WITH 7 ROUND CYLINDER.....
UPON ITS RETURN, I SHIPPED IT OUT TO DENNIS REICHARD AT SAND BURR GUN RANCH, FOR A "DELUXE TUNED ACTION", ALONG WITH A SMOOTH, RADIUSED TRIGGER. MASSAD AYOOB REFERS TO DENNIS AS "THE BEST GUNSMITH, CURRENTLY SPECIALIZING IN S&W REVOLVERS." HE PREPARES ALL OF AYOOBS COMPETITION AND CARRY WEAPONS. DENNY IS A MULTI CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOTER HIMSELF. WITH AN ENDORSEMENT LIKE THAT FROM MAS, I COULD NOT SEND MY WORK ANYWHERE ELSE.....
BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FINGER GROOVED COMBATS DON'T FIT MY HAND, I PURCHASED A PAIR OF PC MAGNAS ON THIS FORUM. THEY WERE VERY WELL USED, DIRTY, AND OIL SOAKED, BUT HAD NO CRACKS OR CHIPS. A FRIEND OF MINE RESTORED THEM, AND I ADDED A TYLER-T GRIP ADAPTER TO COMPLETE THE PACKAGE. I SOLD THE COMBATS AND THE ORIGINAL 6 SHOT CYLINDER, TO HELP FUND THE PROJECT......
BELOW IS THE END RESULT. IT FITS ME LIKE A GLOVE, IS SLICKER THAN SNOTS---AND TO ME WAS WORTH THE TIME, EFFORT AND MODERATE MONETARY EXPENDITURE......

I very much enjoy modifying my firearms and have many that fall into that category. I am going to show the Smith and Wessons first
Well to start off with, I rechambered my Smith and Wesson 940s for 38 SUPER
This model 60 has had it's hammer bobbed
I know I need a better photo
This 627 Pinto has a second cylinder that is set up for 9x23 Winchester. Since auto loading cartridges fired in Smith and Wesson revolvers head space on the moon clip instead of the case mouth (except the 547) it is capable of shooting all of the shorter cartridges 38 Super, 38 ACP, 356TSW, 9x21, 9MM Parabellum. 380 ACP, etc. The revolver has also been equipped with a set of LPA three dot fiber optic sights
This model 25 was shortened to 2 3/8" and converted to a K-frame round butt configuration
All of my 310/610 revolvers have had their chambers opened up to shoot the 10MM Magnum cartridge
This Model 34 has a second 22 Magnum cylinder and has had it's hammer bobbed
These Chief's Special 40s have both been converted to 10MM Auto. So they are now CS-10s
This 4014 has been converted to 10MM Auto making it a 1014. I also have recently converted a 4013 making it a 1013, unfortunately I have not photographed that one
There are probably more Smith and Wessons, but they do not come to mind at the moment.
Sticking with the 10MM Auto for the moment, I converted this Mauser M2 over to 10MM Auto many years ago
By now you may have figured out that I am a fan of the 10MM Auto and 10MM Magnum cartridges
On another tangent here is one that I really like. It is the Marlin in 45LC that we converted to a take down rifle
This 2 1/2" Ultimate Stainless Python has a roller bearing action conversion by Walt Sherman. I have no idea if Walt is still doing this work, but it made the DA pull a reliable 5 pounds. One of the LTs I worked with described the DA pull as pulling a hot knife through warm butter.
My initial thoughts was to shoot this Python in PPC Snubby matches, just ever got around to it.
One of my earliest conversions was this Colt Government Model that was used as the basis for my first 9x23 Winchester autoloader. I stippled the front strap for better traction during recoil. Obviously I also put on the beaver tail and the enlarged magazine release
Theare are many more that I no longer own and there are more that I still have, but I have a meeting to get to. So they will have to wait for another day,

My dad was NYPD. Sworn in at round 1960. I found a letter from the precinct captain granting my father permission to acquire a m36 Chiefs Special IN NICKEL! In my those days silver guns were for bad guys. Later on dad put imitation stag horn grips on his service revolver. I’m thinking it was for a laugh. As you state, he was corrected at roll call.

I once sent a Model 29 to S&W for a trigger job. I bought the gun second hand and the timing wasn't perfect. When it came back it was nice!
