Default Lighten DA trigger on 659??

Just got a used 659 DAO (there is some question if it was made that way or altered by someone) and I'd like to get the DA pull down from 12 to about 8 or 9 pounds.

Is there a way besides a complete trigger job, ala the "magic" D-spring trick with Beretta 92s?

In other words will a lighter mainspring (hammer spring?) from say Wolff do the trick. If so, what weight is recommended.

I'll be calling S&W customer service to see if they can help determine if the gun was made DAO or changed. Here's a pic or two of it.

thanks.

Based on the photos, I'd wager some serious money that this Model 659 has been altered by the owner, not the factory. The front sight shape looks different than what I have seen in the past on Models 39/39-3/59/x39/x59. It looks to have been filed down.

I am not aware of S&W offering a DAO option on first or second generation metal frame pistols, so I'd say that someone altered the hammer so that it follows the slide during the feeding cycle, making it DAO. A lighter hammer spring will lighten the trigger pull, but be careful as this will also result in a lighter hammer strike and may not reliably ignite primers.

A lighter mainspring will reduce the DA trigger pull but I doubt you'll get 4#s from it.

I've bought Wolff's Reduced Power Spring pack (16, 17, & 18). 20# is standard power. The 17# is the lowest my records show I've used in my 3rd Gens but it's been total reliable with them. I handload & use only CCI primers, supposedly the hardest.

S&W customer service sent me a pre-paid FedEx...gun is now at S&W for inspection and repair. Will update when I learn more.

Many thanks for the comments.
