Default Question: Chenging .40 Shield to 9mm?

My question concerns changing a .40 SW Shield to 9mm. I already have a DPM 9mm/.40 recoil spring installed. How reliable would it be to install a new 9mm barrel and 9mm mags?

Apparently the 9mm magazines would work. This would seem to be a reasonalby easy conversion.

Can anyone offer their experience on this?

The best way to convert your Shield from .40 to 9mm is to purchase a .40 to 9mm conversion barrel. A couple of companies are TR Enabling and Lone Wolf Distributors. You will also need to use 9mm magazines.

I don't have a Shield, but I suspect that the 9mm and 40 bolt faces are different sizes. In order to do just a barrel swap, the bore and chamber would need to be offset. Extractor may need to be modified.

Thanks to all ywho have sent advice. After considering will remain with the .40 Shield. I would need the CA approved 9mm barrel since this Shield has the 'loaded' display built into that barrel. I did a check of the recommended marketers. Will have to take pains (pardon the pun) to assure my trigger finger doesn't go up against the trigger guard. Careless I guess..

I subscribe to not throwing good money at a problem there are better solutions for. Buy the 9mm of your choice - keep both for a while. Sell the one you like least or better yet, keep both if you are so inclined. This method give you the most latitude without incurring a risk of screwing up a good gun, gives you a buyers remorse back out on the 9 should you feel you made a mistake, and no need to spend money on a conversion barrel which might be a substantial portion of money towards the new gun.

Truer words have never been spoken. A Shield is about a $300 gun and the expense to convert to a ‘maybe’ is not money well spent. Being a resident of CA only adds issues...

I like conversion barrels and have been doing them for years. It
started with the Glock 22 & 23. Then went to the SIG 226-229.

My son talked me into getting the 40 Shield. They run by just
swaping the OEM 40 S&W for an OEM 9mm barrel. Doing them
was easy and relatively cheap.

I need a TR Enabling .357 SIG Shield barrel and wish somone
would make them for the KAHR's, cause I would do them too.
