Default Nomenclature - Internal/External Parts

Thought I would post this drawing of some of the parts we often discuss here on the forum's "Smithing" page. Hopefully, this will help all of us use the proper terms when referring to common Smith & Wesson parts, and keep us on the "same page", so to speak.

Keep in mind this drawing was done quite some time ago, probably in the late 60's or early 70's, and consequently some of the internals have changed since then. The names of most of the various parts remain the same.

I apologize for the poor quality. In Windows, you can hold down the "Ctrl" button and hit the "+" sign on the keyboard repeatedly to zoom in.....hold down the Ctrl button and the "minus" sign to zoom back out. Makes it a little easier to see details without leaving this page.

I don't think they produce this particular drawing any more. Good to refer to for sure.

This is fantastic! Iwas watching a video the other day, about disassembling and reassembling a S&W revolver. Video was made by an older guy who had gone through the S&W armorer's school; he spoke about using the correct nomenclature and how it differed from Ruger and Colt for similar pieces. here's a link to the video, it goes perfectly with this diagram:
