Default 'Smith to Shorten an N-Frame Barrel?

Is it a big deal to shorten one of the N-frame barrels with the ramped front sight? Can anyone recommend a gunsmith that could do this?

Thanks,

Unless it's a rare version of the N frame, you might be money ahead looking around for a replacement barrel of the proper length instead of shortening the barrel, IMO. As for a gunsmith to shorten the barrel, I can't help you there as I've never had that done. But I've seen the name Andy Horvath posted up here quite a bit for custom work on S&W revolvers.

Thanks.

It's a 6 1/2" 1955 that some knucklehead had ported.

If you don't really want a shorter barrel, I'd have the ports welded up and the barrel re-blued if you prefer the 6 1/2" barrel.

I had a ported 1955 and found a barrel on ebay for ~ $75 and had it changed. The bluing was a very good match too.

Alex Hamilton will cut your barrel. Unless your front sight is pinned, he will add an aftermarket front sight.

Magna porting, Pro porting, both are good ways to ruin a fine bullet shooter or shotgun. Especially when recoil is not really an issue
