I have a few photos that may help. You have to start the process by removing the manual safety. There is a spring and plunger in a cavity in the end of the extractor body that serves as a detent for the safety, so use caution you don't loose these when you remove the safety body from the slide.
If your style of extractor looks like the one in these photos, the extractor body is then pushed back off of the tooth in the slide to remove. You may want to soak it in something prior to removal if there is evidence of oxidation or impacted dirt.

Armorer951--thank you for the excellent pictures. I've never fully stripped this slide before, could you walk me through it please?

I searched this forum for info on removing this particular extractor but came up empty so I really appreciate your time and expertise.

I found a slide online and bought it for the extractor. The firing pin is still in place and the manual safety works. Only the rear sight, barrel, bushing and spacer are missing.

Thanks!

I'm far from an expert, believe me.

Generally, the slide would disassemble the same way as the later model autos. After the firing pin is pushed fully forward by hand, the manual safety can be removed. (after pushing it fully forward through the opening in the breechface with a long punch or similar tool, I use a clamp on the end of the firing pin to hold it forward as far as possible....this makes removal of the safety body a lot easier) )

Sometimes it helps to rotate the safety body a bit during it's removal out of the slide. Watch for the plunger and spring that are in the back of the extractor body....they may want to pop out as you pull the manual safety out.

There may be some minor fitting issues (differences) between your slide and the replacement extractor. Obviously, as you know, these are not "drop in" parts.

Thank you, I will give it a try. There's a gun show this weekend that I'm attending so it'll be soaking in kroil for the next few days.
