Around 1973 I bought a new 2.5" model 19 for the grand sum of $170.00. This was my daily carry for many years. The factory supplied magna grips dis not fit my hand at all, but with a Tyler T grip adaptor it was excellent. I loved that gun an much regret selling in a fit of stupidity. I had that problem quite often when I was young. I see there are currently 2 WTB ads for these adapters on this forum. I seem to recall that years ago the original maker was not able to supply them and someone else (BK?) started producing a like product. Then the original maker started selling them again. I see both have a website and list the adaptors for sale. So why the demand for used ones?

I just looked at the prices-Wow! When I worked at a gun shop in the mid 70s we sold the Tyler grip adaptors and trigger shoes for $2.95 and $3.95, IIRC.

I have been wanting Tyler T-grips for two revolvers that I own (M58 and M17). My mother decided to make them a Christmas present last year and ordered direct from them in the beginning of November. She paid by personal check (per their directions). The check was quickly cashed, and we are still waiting for either the grip adapters or any feedback whatsoever. My mother has made multiple attempts to contact them to no avail. She has been leaving messages since January.

Buyer beware. If you do a search on the forum, it is not a new story.

I'm one of those with a WTB ad up for them. I've bought a couple direct from Tyler's, acquired a couple in trade, bought a couple others on ebay, sold a couple.

Unfortunately, there is a reason the used market exists as it does. People would rather pay double than get jerked around for months or a half a year or worse...

Instead of having a decent web order process put it place they rely on old, antiquated mail ordering with money orders.

It just makes no sense to me that someone wouldn't either take the reigns or buy them out. The market for Tgrips is ridiculous.

Me personally, I'd work at it full time and have an internet ordering system set up. Raise the price about $10 per grip and call it a day.

That sounds much like the stories I read years ago. What about BK? Are they reputable?

BK is excellent! I have a set for my Colt DS and am very happy. I’ve also bought Tyler’s used, but BK is a great option. I also have a couple of Pachmayrs, but I prefer the Tyler/BK pattern.

When I looked at the websites just before starting this thread, the BKs were several dollars less. Another thought: I wonder if anyone has considered trying to make grip that feel like the standard factory grip with the adapter installed?

Craig Spegel's Boot Grips do a nice job of simulating the feel of Magnas with a T Grip.

I may be the rare exception here (but doubt that I am) but I have purchased from Tyler T Grip Company several times and have always found them to be reputable.

Everything I have ordered I have received and the product has been quality.

Sure they may use old school methods, and may take a little time to get to me but I have never been disappointed in the product.

Bottom line is if you want the original T Grip made of metal you pay your money and you patiently wait. Good things come to those who wait!

I can't imagine the guy making these is reinvesting all your money and living off the dividends while you wait for your T Grip. Chances are the demand isn't real high and it is not cost effective to make them on demand. I imagine he, or she, has a full time job, a family and life going on as well that may keep them busy.

The website says 3-6 weeks for delivery. We are currently sitting just short of 6 months. It wouldn't be as bad, but they haven't returned any of my mother's calls. She feels bad because they were supposed to be a gift.

Same scenario here, but ordered in October. Haven’t heard a peep.

I ordered a couple of BKs recently. I got a shipment notice within hours and the adapters arrived at my home two days later. Apparently, he's running behind (or the post office is). In the past it's only taken a day.

The BK adapters are plastic, but they function as well as the Tylers. Tyler makes silver grip adapters and that's nice, but black plastic works fine.

The one time I ordered from Tyler, it took about six months.

Sometimes Robertson Trading Post has Tylers in stock and they ship quickly. A little pricier than Tyler, but not by much.

I'm with jimmyj,, BK for me.....nice snug feel on my M15 snub....I feel for the OP, but I bet it will get there, then it will take a long time for the anger to wear off!

I've tried the Magna/T-grip combo and didn't particularly care for it due to what I call gaps at the front of the grip. Also wasn't a fan of the squared-off front strap. I prefer rounded, continuous contact. I think PGS Hideout grips come pretty close, maybe with a little less material on the front. They're a little flatter on the front strap than I'd prefer, but rounded enough to satisfy my preference. I've got them on both of my 642s. On the plus side, they're about $20 from Brownells, so if you try them and don't like them you're not out a lot of money. FYI, they're only available for J- and K-frame round butts, I believe. Edit: Forgot to mention, the J-frame models won't work with speedloaders without modification, but it's easy to do if you have a Dremel tool (I don't...), and not an issue if you prefer strips. The K-frame version works fine with speedloaders.

I'm going to disagree here. I think Spegel boot grips are much better than the Magna/T-grip combo. They have hand-filling palm swells the Magnas don't. They're also nice and rounded, unlike the square-ish fronts of the T-grips.

I was not aware that BKs were made of plastic. My old Tylers from the 1970s appear to be cast aluminum, polished on the front. I think $25.00 sounds too steep for a piece of molded plastic with a little metal clip attached.

I grew up shooting revolvers with T grips. BK versions are just as good - albeit from hard composite - and worth their price.

I finally gave in and ordered 2 K/L/N frame grip adapters from BK.
Placed the order on the BK website at 9:30 Tuesday evening and
they arrived in my mailbox this morning. That is 2 and one half days
from order to in my hands. Tyler should look at this business model.
Anyway, I thought $25.00 was too steep, but they do look better than I
expected, and they have double mounting clips. Seems to fit the same
as the Tylers, but more solid. I now have to say I prefer the BK, at
least on the K/L frame. Have not tried one on an N frame yet.
I am happy with them.

I have BKs on my Colt DS. Every bit as good as a Tyler. And the double clips are a plus. No movement at all.

Tyler just needs to put delivery in 12-18 months on their website and end the drama. It is inexcusable to do otherwise.

If nothing else works, you might try building up the inside of the trigger shoe with a little Bond-O or bedding material. Just a little and let it harden good before trying to fit it on the trigger. Will take some time and trial's.

I have had a BK to fit a J frame for about 18 months which I bought and received very fast. I recently got a Tyler-T black K frame on a used model 10. The BK is shiny and feels better to me for some reason, even on my model 15's. I wouldn't hesitate getting a BK over a Tyler-T, as long as you want a black one.

I also have an old Mershon for a K frame that my Dad had from the 60's, complete with the box that had $2.95 written on it. One side of the clip is broken, but the clip is attached with a small screw so it looks replaceable. I imagine I have to find thin material and make one myself.

My first department did not allow us to change the grips on our service revolvers and my issued Colt OP was too small for me. The local police supply carried the Tylers and it worked like a charm. Both my Colt Cobra & S&W Model 10 snub are set up that way.

My experience was that the maker 5 years ago was dishonest. He noted his lead time to be 45 days, I let almost twice that pass before I requested the grip or a refund in the next 7 days, two weeks later my refund showed. A real waste of time and more importantly it showed a lack of professionalism and integrity on the makers end so that is just one experience you may want to consider before you pay up front which was the greater rub for me personally. Don’t take a mans money if you can’t deliver the goods, simple.

Have several Tylers from back in the day, all bought new but not from Tyler direct. $3.50 each and mostly they went begging. I have finally reached the point where I need a few more, but Not at $70.00 a piece and up. That is just crazy. I have a couple older S&W plastic grip adapters in use and they work just fine. When I get around to it BK will get my business.

If anyone really wants a K frame black Tyler T with a worn finish, I would trade mine for 2 black K frame BK adapters. Just send me a PM.

I had a bad dealing with Tyler a couple of years ago. I did get my money back with a "banned for life" letter. I had a very positive dealing with BK.

I just installed a BK on an N frame. Although it works, the fit is not as good as on a K/L frame. There is an unsightly gap at the top of the curve in the grip frame. It is worse on the right side than the left. Looks like maybe BK should make a separate size for N frames. I wonder if I could file a little off the inside front part of the adapter to make it fit up higher in the curve?
