43c .22lr firing pin question
I have 2 43c Smiths.. While cleaning, I noticed that the more resent has a solid firing pin and the older one has a hollow, reduced mass, pin. First hollowed our pin I’ve ever come across! Hollow costs more. Older gun has the hollow pin, newer has the the solid.
WHY?
Tentative answer. Less of the energy of the hammer is used up accelerating the firing pin when the mass of the pin is less. So more energy is available to crush the rim & ignite the primer.
Ok. I put in a light ( for a .22 ) 8# hammer spring instead of the usual 9# needed with solid firing pin.
Not a miss fire! Not one. And a very nice trigger pull.
Test & carry ammo is CCI Stinger Fragmented (Quik Shok).
