Anyone have a round butt K Frame Tracing?
Does anyone have a tracing of a round butt K frame or can make one? I picked up a cheap pencil barrel Police Trade In M10. I'm going to make it a project gun, and chop the barrel to 3", round butt it, and trim the hammer.
I'd like to trim it to the same dimensions as a factory RB so grips will be easy.
Thanks!
Michael

Not a gunsmith, don't have any tracings, but I thought these might help.
I did a quick Google search and found this:
Round Butt Fitting Guide S&W K, L-Frame - Pacific Tool and Gauge
Alternatively, if you already know what kind of grips you want, you could just purchase them and use them as a guide.

Start with a good set of K frame round-butt stocks and fit the frame to the stocks. Remember that the factory hand fitted stocks and/or frame prior to finishing, so that the fit always ended up perfect. No two vintage S&W RB frames are exactly the same.

Ditto on the serial number. You DON'T want to remove any of it. Forty plus years ago, I started doing round butts by racing the outline of a pair of RB Magnas onto the frame. Another tip, don't cut or grind exactly to the tracing; keep the metal a little proud. The back strap and for strap are slightly rounded, from the center down to the grip.
