I seem to recall that a standard S&W screw will not fit Sile. I think that as those are made in Italy the screw is metric.

Is Sile still in business? Call them for a new screw. Or re-thread hole for a S&W screw, or also install S&W escutcheons if same diameter hole as the Sile.

Not much help but some grips use common hardware store sizes. Take the grips to the store and hope to find a size that fits well enough.

For example, Herrett uses a 6-32 thread screw that I've found at Ace Hardware. The hardware store head is larger diameter but fairly easily reduced to the smaller diameter and proper filster head profile.

Farrant and Hogue (in the old 2-piece grips) used 4-40 screws that are more difficult to find but are available.

NOBODY stocks the S&W 5-44!!!

Thanks everybody! I do not think Sile is in business anymore.I have escutcheon sets but the one used by Sile is a larger diameter.I have checked several hardware stores and can find nothing to fit so I am pretty sure the screw is metric.I can re-thread the hole but I thought I would ask first.

I don’t bother anymore unless it’s S&W grips. If it’s not standard threads, usually NF. I just punch it to next size, 6x32 is most common to use. If your HWD doesn’t have big selection, get a brass screw. You can chuck it up in drill and use a file to dress head down, much less work than steel.

Just a suggestion where you might locate it.

I recently got the smaller screw for a J-frame from a music store my favorite mom’n’pop hardware store recommended. Music store told me the screw was used on some guitars and violins. Not genuine S&W but it beat paying 10 or more bucks to an Ebay merchant. The screw is stainless but has a Phillips head.

Wish I had written it down and saved the size and thread. My hardware store determined the size by trial and error but only had it in half inch. They could only order the one inch in lots of 100.

Another suggestion.

About ten or more years ago I needed a screw for some Jay Scott grips for a High Standard Double Nine. I took the grips to Home Depot and determined the thread and size by trying it on their threaded rod. Once I figured out the size and thread. I was able to buy a screw that threaded in but had to be shortened. I also learned to buy a couple of nuts the hard way. I filed it down to the correct length but boogered up the threads do so. It was back to Home Depot for another screw but I also bought two nuts. Second attempt before filing it to the correct length, I installed the nuts. I used the nuts to chase the threads and had a perfect fit. I can’t recall the numbers but it was way to costly to buy one screw from Numrich especially with their minimum shipping fee.
