High polish re-blue
Any recommendations on where or whom can do a high polish re-blue of my Model 58 no dash revolver?? I’d like to find somebody in Arizona to avoid the shipping hassle but I’m willing to have my FFL send it out of state to have it done right. The only one in Phoenix I’m aware of closed shop a few years ago and I’m done listening to sales pitches on the new miracle coatings. Probably close to ten years ago there was a couple of posts regarding somebody in Colorado. The posts claimed he could duplicate the high polish blue of 1950’s Model 27’s.
I know I’m destroying or reducing my M58’s collectibility but I’ll feel better it’s my favorite handgun and I will never sell it anyway. I’ll let my grandson deal with the collectibility should he decide to sell, trade or forced to return it to the govt if a future buy-back becomes law after I kick the bucket.

I have wondered if S&W would do it. I had a 15 redone 30 years ago, and it looked great back then. I don't have it to judge today.

S&W's current blueing process does not produce the same hue as their old process. The current system produces a finish that is more black than blue. This new finish is also reported to not be as tolerant of some gun solvents and can take on a purple hue.

Ive read some positive reviews in the past on Glenrock Blue. i contacted him via email on bluing a part 6mos ago. I didnt follow thru but he was friendly and answered me within a day or so. I think his wife works in his business with him. Just a possibility to check out..Im sure he would inform you about his prep work if you ask about it in your email and any factory work he might do as a poss subcontractor.. He mentions S&W
finishes in his bluing price page on grades of finishes. Just a another place to ck out.
FWIW .. Randy...

Thx gentlemen for the recommendations. I guess Turnbull does a spectacular job as I was quoted “starts at $3,000”. More reasonable estimates from various places run about $300-450 and even less if one is willing to completely disassemble and send just the frame and cylinder.

That's what you want if you are restoring a Colt Python.

The OP wants a "High Polish" for some reason.
Basic Blue is less.
Price list.
