Default 586-4 6 inch bluing issues

Revolver was re-blued about 6 years ago and now the hammer, trigger, cylinder, and rear site base are a very rich plumb color.

What do you think went wrong with the reblue, and what do you think my options are for a redo?

The correct finish for the hammer and trigger on the 586 (non-MIM) is case hardening, not blued. As for the hammer, trigger, and cylinder turning a plum color, that could be from the bluing salts in the tank being weak or at the wrong temperature, the alloy of the steel, or the heat treatment of the steel, or any combination of these things. It's not uncommon to see blued revolvers with some parts turning plum or even coming out of the bluing process with a plum hue.

Thanks for the reply. All understood and agree.

I'm fairly certain that the hammer and trigger are case hardened and have no idea why anyone would attempt to blue them.

I'm necking down to stainless guns in 4 inch or less and was desiring to sell this one, not because of the plumb issues.

I just wonder how the afficianos on this site might view the gun for re-sale.
In some ways, it looks kinda neat and unique.

Collectors will pass on it, but someone looking for a shooter grade 586 would be your target audience.

A 586 is just not as commonly available as a 686, and they have a dedicated following.

If you post it for sale, show it’s condition in pics, and are honest about the reblue, you will get good money for it.

A 6” 586 is as good as any revolver ever made.
