Default Cost to machine plungers?

Greetings! As you may be aware, last week I experienced an out of battery firing of my Mauser HSc. When the extractor blew out, the spring and two associated plungers were lost. It appears as though replacement plungers are extremely rare. In order to obtain these plungers, I had to purchase a complete salvaged slide.

I got the hair-brained idea overnight to investigate making a dozen or so spare plungers (extractor and safety detent) for when I lose the current plungers.

I know that I have seen that some of the members here are machinists and have access to lathes. Could anyone here give me an idea how much it might cost to make a dozen or so of each plunger from blueprints? I am looking to create a set of blueprints once the parts come in.

As always, thanks for your help!

A lot depends upon the size and shape of the plungers, especially in relation to the sizes of available stock. BTW, how are you going to determine material specs?

Anyhow, there's setup time plus actual machine time. At least the last time I checked around here, machine shop time (including setup) was running around $70/hr. Someone here might take it on as a hobby project.

I'd sort of expect the plungers were originally produced on a screw machine (specialized small parts lathe). If the setup and machining are fairly simple, one might be able to run off scads in fairly short order. Dunno if sales would cover costs.

I make one or a few for prototypes and machine repairs every day as a business. Send me your drawings (actual parts would be better) and I'll give you a quote.
