627-5 Performance Center Front Sight?
I have a Dawson Precision front sight coming for my 627. I couldn't find a single YouTube video of a dovetail front sight install on a revolver. Seems most say remove right to left and install left to right. Would this be correct on this gun? I'd also like advice on the proper way to tighten this down in a vise. Its a 2.5" so I dont have much room on the barrel.

I may have been doing it wrong with autos, but I remove left to right and install right to left.
I have the same revolver. Do you have the specs and or link for that Dawson front sight?
Thanks.

The dovetail is straight. You can push them in or out either way.

I use padded Vice jaw inserts and place just the barrel in the vice. Since your barrel is only 2.6” I would also add support below the grip.

It already had a Dawson sight on in that was .200 x .125. It was shooting 4" high at 10 yards with the rear sight centered in its range of adjustment. Dawson has a sight calculator and based on that I ordered the .245 x.100

I understand clamping down on the barrel but what do you mean by adding support below the grip? if the barrel is positioned high enough to knock the sight out the grip would be below the clamping surface of the vise.

Correct
I mean that I would rotate the vice (if possible) so the grip is sits on the the bench. If there’s space beneath the grip and bench I’d put something solid between the grip and bench to provide extra support.
