Default Trigger Differences

Is there any difference between say K L N early
50s to 80s color case triggers and earlier
pre war triggers? IIRC I remember earlier triggers had the little locator bosses like the hammers but more important do the later triggers interchange with and be used with
the early pre war hammers and hands in a pre war N Frame? I ask because I dont have a pre
war N frame Smith to use to compare the internal action components with..
Thanks..

There short answer is yes!

This a is a very big question, but briefly:

When you get into pre war triggers there's several variations:

This usually deals with the hand. Hands changed 3 times: no hammer block safety, 1st style side plate mounted safety, 2nd style side plate mounted safety. One had a coil spring mounted in trigger, others the wishbone spring like post war triggers.

The chafing bushings in hammer and triggers pretty much went away by 1920.

The post war 50's to 80's triggers are pretty much the same until you get into the newer "floating hand" era. but they're interchangeable.

What exactly do you want to accomplish?

Thanks Jim for the info on long action N frame trigger variations. Are the triggers for K frames and N frames interchangable on the long actions like on the later K L Ns?
Im trying to identify triggers I come across
usable in pre war N frames.
I plan on aquiring a pre war N frame and
like having parts for it if they cross my path.
Jim you mentioned a early trigger w a coil spring. I have one On hand and want to know if the early K & N triggers swap Taking in account variations you mention.
Thanks a Bunch!!

All K, L, & N triggers of the same vintage are interchange regardless of frame size, both pre and post war.

Hammer block safeties & TRIGGER WITH COIL SPRING

1915 – 1st style hammer block safety mounted in the side plate was introduced in the I frame .32 and .38/32 and K frame service revolvers April 20th. This style corresponds to the Dec 29, '14 patent date on barrels. It was not used in the I frame .22/32 Kit Gun or Heavy Frame Target.

1925 - 2nd style hammer block safety was ordered for the I frame Nov 6th to improve the action. It was not used in the .22/32 Kit Gun or Heavy Frame Target. There is no new patent date for this style.

1926 – 2nd style hammer block safety was ordered for all K frame models in December. There is no new patent date for this style.

1927 & 1933 - Introduced 2nd style on the 2nd and 3rd model 44 Hand Ejectors c.1927 at about #29000. 1917 Army: had the leaf spring 2nd style only, applied in 1933 at about # 185,000.

1945 - 3rd style: post war slide action hammer block sliding bar safety on all models:
