I couldn’t leave these alone.

Is there a “Repairing S&W Stocks for Dummies” manual anywhere?

You did OK to get that many wood carving tools for $5, but they look a bit flimsy. They are not checkering tools.

Once you get some proper checkering tools start practicing on trashed grips (stocks) until you get proficient. No sense in mucking up descent ones. What you bought are Gouges and cutting tools - not checkering tools from what I see from here.

Thanks for the input, my experience with wood carving peaked with toothpicks.

I’ll keep looking for some checkering tools.

Most people buy one or two handles and different checkering tips that are interchangeable. There's sources for checkering instruction, just google.
