Default Removal of 1905 Hand Ejector Side Plate

I need to remove the side plate from a 1905 Hand Ejector which is the old five screw set up. I have never opened up a five screw before so could use some advice. Do I need to remove the trigger guard screw to remove the side plate? Will appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

No, you don't have to remove the front trigger guard screw first. Make sure you have a properly fitting screwdriver. Once you get the grips off, and the side place screws off, and make sure the screws will be go back in the same holes, it will come loose.
If it sticks, don't try to pry it, instead lightly tap the bottom of the frame with a wooden handle if needed and it will work loose.

Thanks for the info. I have removed side plates from four screws but wasn't sure about five screws. As usual, timely help from this forum.

Fyi... the screw on the front of the trigger guard of 4 & 5 screw guns is for the cylinder stop/bolt spring.

That screw was eliminated when S&W went to a blind hole in the frame for the spring, instead of a straight thru hole, with a screw.

Also... if you ever need to replace one of those springs, which are longer than the standard ones used on 3-screw guns, a Wolff Spring #17185 (extra power cylinder stop spring) fits the bill.
