Default NYPD Shield 10lb trigger question

My close friend just retired from NYC Sheriff Dep't and wants to convert his 9mm Shield to the standard civilian trigger pull weight. The question is what would be required to so. Is it a simple matter of a parts swap or does it require a skilled gunsmith?

Yes it is a simple matter that any qualified GS can handle. Because of the political climate these days, I'd get the replacement parts that were actually meant for the originally manufactured gun (by S&W) and slatted fro a civilian version. This way no one can say you made a "killer's gun" out of after market parts that were never intended for the model.

I believe the original civilian model was meant to have a trigger pull of around 5-7 pounds.

Your "friend" must make sure of whatever State laws require
There are many trigger kits/parts for the Shield. He should call them and find out.

It is possible that a gun smith could improve the trigger pull with no parts. If you can find a good gun smith in his area I would have him take the gun to them and tell them what he wants. Of course he might come out cheaper to buy a new Shield and sell the duty weapon or trade it on the new one.

I believe, but am not 100% sure, that what would needed to be changed are the sear block (sear housing assembly) and trigger bar assembly. The standard parts available from several sources would replace those currently in the firearm.

I don't see separate parts listed for the shield, the compact version uses the same sear block and trigger bar assembly as the full size pistol.
