I'm interested in placing a gold bead on a patridge front sight.
What guidance can you give me a what to use to accomplish this?
I've seen the small .067 threaded gold bead shotgun sights and poss modifying one w files, etc to use for material for the bead.
Can anyone share your thoughts or experience
creating , fabbing , or placing a gold bead on a patridge sight?
Thanks a Bunch!
It would require drilling a hole pretty much dead center in the front sight and at an exact predetermined height. Exactly where the hole was drilled would also effect elevation and windage so it must be precise. With an adjustable rear sight there is some forgiveness and correction - but only so much.
The best way to determine if this will work is to use a gold colored paint marker and put a temporary dot there and shoot the gun. See how it works out.
Drilling a hole for a gold bead also is subject you your skill level and tools you have on hand. To get a perfectly located hole on such a small piece of metal is not for the faint of heart.
If your front sight is removable - it makes it a little easier. You could also do a Dovetail to insert a gold (brass) piece. The dovetail would hold it in place and that might be the easier method. Either way - practice on a scrap piece first.
Well
My first thought not to hurt the sight itself was to epoxy the bead material to the sight.
I thought the epoxy would hold the bead ok
And could reverse it if needed..Poss wishful thinking not overly complicating the install.
Appreciate the input on the process of this.
