Do any of the smithies on this forum use and approve of the LUCAS lubricants designed for guns ?

A guy gave me a bottle a few years ago...........I've used it on my 1911 frames and slides.

Never tried it. Breakfree CLP and Rem-Oil for cleaning and lubricating. Suppose grease good idea for slides.

I’ve got a couple bottles and I like it. It’s got good viscosity and doesn’t seem to dry out. I also use it on the blades of my electric hair clippers (been cutting my own hair For about 30 years)
I like the way the bottle spout distributes the oil on the gun rails also. I do use it and recommend it, but I’m not a gun smith.

Just started using it on my 1911s and Taurus 99, there seems to be no problems. TIme will tell.

I like the Extreme Duty (blue color) one for revolver lockworks, and the regular (red color) one for the crane and cylinder.
I've used Break Free since it came out and still like it as well.

I like the Lucus products. A few years ago I switched from Break Free to Mobile One for wiping my guns down when putting back in the safe. Also run my AR’s , mini -14 , AK’s on Mobile One. I think it is a better rust preventative then the “CLP” products

I use the extreme duty on my 945 , 845 and my 52 . Use it on a lot of my 2nd and 3rd gens . Just a little bit on the rails . Been using it for a while and works great . It doesn't break down with heat and seems to do the job .

I figure if it's good enough for 4000+ HP dragsters , they must know what they are doing .

I recently met folks from Indiana who know the Lucas family . They said they were great people and support many good causes from 2nd Amendment to Agriculture. I got free samples at Cattlemens convention and it seems to work well.

I started using it after getting a sample with a new rifle. I like it for lubrication and cleaning. It penetrates caked on poder fouling and carbon build up for easy cleaning.

I run it on my pre range lubes, kinda half smells like gear oil to me ... run it on lugs and where the barrel meets frame, wipe clean after use.... never had an issue

My primary is Wilson Combat oils

Haven't used it, but my guess is that it probably works as well as just about any gun lube on the market. Users here seem to confirm that.

I've used Break Free CLP for several years, as well as Gun Butter oil. Went non-toxic earlier this year with Lubriplate oil. They all worked fine.

I have one friend (gun owner) that loves the stuff but he never sticks with one oil for very long so all I can assume is that is works as well as any of the major brands that have been around for a long time.

I have at least 40 different oils, greases and dry lubes that I've tried and collected over the years and truthfully while some do work a little better than others, I can't think of any that won't get the job done. Some work better in the cold, some better in the heat and still some work better on EDC guns where you don't want oil or grease migrating onto your holsters and clothing - but at the end if the day I've never had one fail and create a rust situation or a problem with a gun malfunctioning because it was not lubricated properly.

On carry guns I use Rig #2 Oil or Remoil because the carrier evaporates leaving protection and lubrication behind and will not ruin holsters and clothing.

On Range only guns I like Breakfree CLP - just a great all round product!

On the rare occasion I use a light grease, I use Rig +P Grease.

To store guns long term I use Rig Universal Grease - never found anything better for anti rust properties.

IMHO Lucas Gun Oil probably falls into the category of the Breakfree CLP. Nothing wrong with trying it - but don't expect it to be a "miracle product"!

It works like any other gun oil on the market. I normally use whatever I happen to grab at any given time, but really like Lucas products. I tend to use it quite a lot of late.

Since Lucas is a major manufacturer of automotive lubricants their gun oil is probably nothing more than one of their engine oils with some blue tint added to it .

Which can probably be said about most all gun oils. I highly doubt there were many gun oils specifically designed for guns.

That does not take into account the snake oil such as Gunzilla, Fireclean, or Froglube.

I want some of whatever they lubricate the big GE-90 turbofans with.

100,000 brake horsepower, 25,000 RPM, pressures and temperatures we can only imagine, and they run for hours on end with no need for repair.

Maybe Boeing or somebody would sell me a gallon?

Used most every thing Forrest makes never disappointed. As for guns they really dont require extreme pressure lubes, mostly lite oils and corrosion inhibitors.

I got some Amsoil Firearms Lubricant last year at a gunshow. Have been using it ever since and am pleased with it. I also bought a bottle of their gun cleaner, also a good product. I have seen Lucas oil at the local farm store, but nothing mentions gun specific like the Amsoil bottle does. Unless there is another gunshow in this country soon, I will likely run out of product. I did just purchase a new bottle of Hoppes, though, I like the smell of it.

I use Lucas in my multi vat ultrasonic cleaner. It was available in bulk (5 gal container for about $100). That makes it the cost effective to use (about 15 cents/oz). I have many different oil and grease brands, viscosities, sizes and shaped containers on my bench. Except for the bulk needs I tend to reach for the applicator that best suits the job at hand. Some jobs need a drop of oil, a toothpick of grease, a capillary of refrigeration (very light) oil or a light coating of what ever is handy. There are no magic potions that will last indefinitely. For those with limited space, Wilson Combat offers three viscosities in convenient size and shape applicators. The oil/grease is no better, no worse than any other, just convenient.

Just as I did with the Mobilgrease 28 aviation grease a few years ago, I bought a big bottle of Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil on Amazon earlier this year along with several small applicators. I've given a lot of it away and still have tons of it.


Between the Mob28 and this gun oil, my gun lubrication needs are pretty well covered. I really think the Lucas Extreme does a great job.

I have been using the red stuff on a few things. As it is available around here but don't see the same places carry the blue. I would like to get some sperm whale oil to try out. Colt used to contend it was the best gun oil for all their guns. I would assume that you cannot buy it new but there may be some old bottles of it somewhere and why not use it if it already exists? No harm. Anyway I was thinking of jet engine oil like someone else mentioned here but I looked at a can of it and there were toxicity/health warnings on it, probably from additives or something. So I could have had lots of that but the warnings changed my mind.

I like it sticky. I found the smell of it to be pleasant, and some scents make me nauseous.

My lawn mower was smoking a blue smoke and after changing the
oil to Mobil 1 it quit smoking.

Truth be told I use rand clp or alg go juice most of the time if I need oil for anything.

However, I like to use 3 in 1 teflon oil on my ar bolt. I just put two small drops in the little holes in the carrier and move the bolt around and it works phenomenal on that.

The go juice also works well on on the carrier for ar15.

For triggers, charging handles, and slides I typically use alg grease, moly wheel bearing grease, or super tech high temp grease from Walmart.

The moly wheel bearing grease stinks but works very well to slick things up.


I've also made my own concoction with the high temp grease from Walmart and mixing in molybdenum powder to it. It also works well.

If I need a thicker oil for say long term storage I'll use lps2, or lps3.

The high temp just by itself is typically what I use to lube my ak bolt and carrier and receiver rails because it doesn't burn off under heavy firing.

Someone once asked me what gun oil I recommended. I told him "whatever is cheapest at the time I need a new bottle". Since I don't tend to neglect my guns, I'll use whatever gun oil is handy at the time. I've never really worried about performance tests.

My guns are stored in a safe with a "Golden Rod" heater. I used Breakfree CLP for a while but one day MY Rem 788 misfired repeatedly at the range. I broke it down and found CLP had migrated into the bolt and gummed up the works. I ditched CLP after that.

I recently picked up a small bottle of Lucas but haven't opened it yet, still trying to use up the last bit of my current oil.

Many years ago in an Air Force shop far, far away, A crew chief opened a case of jet engine oil to find commercial Mobil 1 cans inside. Didn't use it, but it sure make people wonder "if."

Fyrquel is what we used on the GE 7FA Gas Turbines and primarily on the Steam Turbine at our power plant. A fire resistant oil of very high quality. I’ve been retired less than a year, so I’m guessing the price hasn’t gone up too much. The last Fyrquel we ordered was just over $6,000.00 for each 55 gallon drum.

You’re absolutely right about the dependability, GE knows a little something about gas turbines, the record for a GE-90 if I read correctly was 134,000 bhp, but I think you had one too many zeros on the RPM, 2,200 to 2,400 normally.😎

Formerly Exxon 2380, now BP 2380 also available under another brand from Aircraft Spruce @$20/qt. Considering what some vendors sell gun oil for, the 2380 might be a good buy. A qt will last forever! I’ll stick to my 5 gal Lucas for $100.

I haven't tried Lucas yet.

Last Christmas, I was gifted a bottle of Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil and have been using it ever since. My SIG 1911 Super Target that I use for competition sees the most of it. I like it fine but in all honesty, there are probably many different oils that would work as well. Whether or not I will purchase more when this bottle runs out remains to be decided. Heck, by then I may be gifted another bottle of oil.

"SHOOTER'S Choice" brand "All Weather High Tech" gun grease on all of my Semi Auto slides. Best system I have arrived at yet.

Lucas Gun Oil (red) is the shizznet.

A lot of guys at local USPSA matches suggested it years ago, and like Frank's hot sauce, I use that s**t on everything. Works as good as anything else, and a $7 quart will probably last the rest of my natural life. I've always looked at it like this: What's an internal combustion engine do? It's hot reciprocating metal containing little explosions. What's a firearm do? Hot reciprocating metal containing little explosions.

Froglube? Bought it, tried it. Smells great. Guess it works, but if you don't remove every trace of petroleum oil, it turns sticky. I've heard it will get sticky over time on it's own, but I quickly went back to engine oil.

One of the most popular oils in turbine engines (besides 2380) is Mobil Jet 2. While it is great in extreme heat (cooling air in a jet engine is over 300 degrees), I hope your gun will never be near that temp, and Jet 2 may not like wood, certain plastics and rubbers, and finishes. Probably not the best choice.

Ditto, the only lube that I have used that my guns did not like at all was Frog Lube and yes I followed all of the directions. My guess is that there are 7 to 10 different lubes in my tray. Break free is the one I grab most often. I did get some Lucas products as a prize at a 3 gun and it seems to work very well. Probably sounds crazy but .....
