Refinishing/restoring target or magna stocks
Good Morning All,
I am sure this has most likely already been discussed before. What is the process for restoring/refinishing factory target and magna stocks? I have several pairs that are dulled and look poor, but the wood is decent and checkering is still fairly crisp. With the cost of these stocks rising i would like to salvage a pair or two if it is worth the time and effort.

Basically all you need to do is to strip the grips with Acetone and a toothbrush. After drying thoroughly, repair any defects (dents and deep scratches) then choose your finish of choice. If you want to replicate the Factory finish, first find out exactly what S&W used on the particular era grips you are doing at the time. They used different wood and different finishes throughout the years.

The grips i am wanting to refinish are goncalo alves target grips from the 1980's. I am thinking the factory most likely used spar to get that high gloss finish. I have two pairs, but they are really just dulled.

OP, detailed instructions for this have been posted to the site a few times.
Run a search and you should be good to go.
