One of my customers has one of those 9EZ pistols. She sent it back for the recall. Prior to it going she fired a few hundred through it with no issues.

Now, when she is shooting it, the slide will lock back with ammo in the mags. Does it with both mags. Followers appear to be fine and the mag springs feel....very easy to depress. Gun is only a few months old.

Another instructor shot it as did I. No issues when we shot it. Any suggestions? Is this another issue with this pistol?

We don't think she is pushing up or contacting the slide stop with her grip. Well, I don't. The other instructor guessed that she might have. She is right handed.

Thanks! Regards 18DAI

If she's using a thumbs-forward grip, it's possible her support hand thumb may be pressing up against the slide. Her dominant hand thumb would be more likely to press down on the slide stop, keeping it from locking open after the last round fired. Of course, I'm just guessing here as I haven't seen her shoot.

Have you checked the OAL of the rounds? I wonder if the bullet noses may be nudging up the slide stop. What was the nature of the recall? If they changed the slide stop, maybe the part that engages the mag follower is out-of-spec and too long, possibly engaging when a round comes into contact with it.

Neither a gunsmith nor familiar with the Shields, but those are the first things to come to my mind based on your description.

WWB 124 grain was the ammo she had. Federal 124 grain was the range fodder we tested it with.

First time it locked back there were 5 rounds left in the mag. 2nd time - 4 rounds left. Same with the other spare mag. 5 then 4. Weird. And her grip was good, during the lesson.

She said it ran fine till she sent it back for the recall. And there was nothing in the box saying what work was done or what was replaced. I don't bother with those guns, so I've got no idea what else to look at. Regards 18DAI
