Default Cylinder mark on 24-3

There is a 2 stamped on the front of the cylinder on my 24-3. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks in advance.

That's not a recognized factory cyl marking. A photo is probably the best help in speculating. Non-factory marks can usually be evident with observation

Therefore the sky is the limit on who put it there and why. Do you have any history on the revolver? A former owner may have had two cyls for it and marked them to differentiate.
