Default Wanting to change the trigger in my 29-4

I have a 29-4 3". It has a target trigger and it's not too friendly for double action work. I'd like to swap it for a smooth combat style one. What would be a good option, and where would a guy source one from. Thanks.

I like the .312 wide smooth trigger, sometimes called the Ranger trigger. Smith also made a .400 smooth trigger, if you want one that wide. It's too wide for DA work for my little hands, though I have it in a gun that I bought used.
Check Gunbroker, ebay, or Jack First gun parts. Any K, L , or N trigger is the right size but might need fitting. Especially, the sear. or take the one from your existing trigger.

Good advice from Nightowl all around (although he might've meant that the sear is in the hammer).

Along with finding old factory parts at some of the places mentioned, aftermarket houses Power Custom and TK Custom make nice-looking replacement S&W triggers.

Thanks. I have hands on the smaller side. So I think a .312 would be the ticket.

Fishingguy3845,

I believe the 29-4 introduced the floating hand in 1988. If your revolver has the floating hand, you will need a floating hand trigger for your gun. This change was made to make assembly easier and to reduce wear but it caused problems in use and was abandoned a few years later.

Another old school solution would be to grind and/sand down the groves in your existing trigger and make your own smooth trigger.

You do not need a floating hand replacement. You can use a normal trigger and hand in a gun that came with a floating hand. You can also punch the floating hand out of it's trigger and use a regular hand in that trigger.
