I just picked up a used 629-4.The gun is great shape and has a very light SA trigger pull.I took it out shooting and it was great, but a couple of times after shooting it SA the hammer didn't want to come back. After pulling on it again it resumed working as normal.I think the previous owner lightened the trigger pull on this gun.Any suggestions?

pull the grips and check the main spring, tension screw should be tight.

I checked all the screws prior to firing and they were all tight.I was going to look at the trigger springs but I've never took the sideplate off a S&W and i didn't want to open a can of worms. Thanks for the reply.

Could be that the main spring strain screw is not tight or has been shortened and the hammer strut is binding on the main spring. You might try replacing the main spring strain screw with a new one.

Remove the main spring strain screw and see if the tip has been ground or filed bright. If it has, you should replace it with a new one.
